After riling TR7 owners about the reliability of the 6 pot, something was bound to happen last weekend to my GT6 wasn't it?!
A splendid drive up the M1 saturday afternoon to Bedford where I met up with a bunch of Triumph "retro-bates" to drink and camp before going to the show at
Knebworth on Sunday. Car ran sweetly.
Sunday morning we headed off and I had no o/d. Very annoying, of course, but I could here the relay going, and I know that the oil if anything was
overfilled, and the o/d clutch should die gradually if it's going to ...
When I took the tunnel cover off yesterday I was somewhat surprised to see the solenoid sitting on the chassis rail, with the screws fortunately next to
it.
Probably the most annoying screw/fixing on the entire car must be the bottom solenoid screw - Mr Laycock Norman Deville must have decided that no one would
ever need to remove the solenoid without taking the unit out.
Does anyone have any special clever ways of getting this screw in? I know that it is possible to jack the gearbox up a bit to clear the rail a little, but
I've done this before and I know it's still a pain in the wrist. I strongly suspect that the reason it fell off this time was because I didn't do the job
properly last time ... hmmm, has anyone ever welded a solenoid in situ!
