This week I took delivery of new set of MKII seat covers and foams from Netwon Commercial. Yesterday, I attempted to fit them.
It wasn't until had stripped down one of my seats that I realised that I have MKIII seats. I made that fatal mistake of assuming that because the seats
came from a MKII, that they were MKII seats (I know, I really should be wise to sort of thing by now but I'm sure you've all done something
similar...).
Anyway, I've spoken to the people at Newton and of course I can return the covers and foams for a 20% handling fee (ouch!). The only problem is, I started
gluing together the seat bases. (It was raining so I did that before I took the seats out of the car). Clearly Newton can't accept back anything that is
glued.
Now, here's the question:
Having studied every diagram I can lay my hands on (as well as my existing seats) , I believe that the covers for the seat bases are the same for the MKII
and MKIII seats; i.e. I do not need to return the covers for the bases.
I did mention this to someone at Newton but I don't think I was speaking to someone who knew the product range (that's the politest way I can put it). They
said that they didn't think they were the same because the foams were different. I know that the foams are different (because the MKIII seats have a
diaphragm and not straps), but I don't think that means the covers are different.
I'm going to try calling again on Monday in the hope of speaking to someone who is more familiar with the products. But in the meantime, does anyone know
if I'm right?
Failing that:
Does anyone have any spare MKII recliner frames I could have?
OR
Does anyone want some leather MKII covers and foams? ...part glued!

Neal,
The seat bases are completely different between the MK2 and MK3 GT6 seats. The MK3 seat bases use a wire basket and have no diaphragm. I am afraid that
nothing is common between the MK2 and MK3 seats. So you either need to sell the covers on ebay or try to find some MK2 seat frames.
