Getting near the cosmetic stage now, and am considering wire wheels for my Mk3 - I'd like to go for the wider 5.5J version, but reading some of the threads
here, there are pitfalls with the size of tyres that can be fitted and issues with suspension ride height and clearances to other components. Seems the
narrower version might be easier. Any experiences? Can anyone recommend what's best with a minimal amount of fuss with the fitting?

Although I am running regular steel wheels rather than wires, I can confirm that the following combination is absolutley trouble free(on my car)
5.5J Dunlop Wheels
175/70 R13 Goodyear GT2 - good traction and not a lot of money(being shopping car tyres)!

Be very choosy with your wire wheels. I have read that the MG (sorry for swearing) version are better on Triumphs as they have larger splines. Triumph
ones strip very easily, especially on a GT6.
Have a look through the archives and you should find the info.
As for tyres, I run 185/60-13 Firestones on my 5.5J steel wheels and they are really good.
Ideal size on a 4.5 or 5.5 is 175/70-13. The 185's slightly reduce the rolling diameter.
