I don't think i like Strombergs. They just seem to be a bit of a git to setup - especially all this needle adjusting nonsense. Does anyone know why Triumph
used these things instead of SUs?
Any opinions out there on whether sticking with the original Stroms is the best bet or are Webers / SUs a better option...?

I put SUs on my Vitesse, just personal preference really, and also the fact I can't afford Webers or their inlet manifolds... dammit.

I've used the original Strombergs (although I rebuilt them 10 yrs ago) on my GT6 and have never had any issues - good performance, fuel economy and
always start first time. That's on a road car.
I started racing another GT6 in 1996 and the Strombergs were the first thing that had to go. Impossible to set up, leaked petrol, slow response etc.
Kas Kastner had no trouble with them in the '60's but then he had to make them work as he had to use Triumph parts.
I put SUs o the racer and they were an absolute joy - more power, easy to adjust and tuneable too.
I've now jsut sold my soul to the Devil however and fitted Webers.
Personnally I think it depends what you expect from them and you pays your money and takes your choice.
On why Triumph used them? BMC owned SU and Triumph were sick of having to pay the opposition for their carbs so they took over Stromberg and made their
own.

Dave

Thanks David, I might look into some shiny SUs then...
