I keep getting cut up in traffic and am fed up with the pathetic horn on my gtfire.
So I have just replaced it with a 136 db airhorn which is very very loud.
My old horn had 3 wires going to in - an earth, then a brown and orange wire connected underneath to a "proper" connector and a green and purple wire
attached via a nut and bolt to the body of the horn.
I've now isolated the green and purple wire and the new horn (with + and - only) works fine.
Can someone tell me what the other wire was for?
My generic wiring diagram in AA book of the car has green and purple as the brake light circuit?

Sounds to me like this third wire is not standard! If bolted to the horn body it will be either to earth the horn because it had earthing problems in
the past (the original earth wire may be adequate to make your new air horn relay trip, but may not have been good enough for the horn if corroded
etc), or a bodge way of providing an earth connection for something else via the horn body.
If nothing else has stopped working I would leave this wire isolated and forget it!

It was a bodged earth for the front indicator - the sidelights started flashing - luckily I sorted this before MOT man saw it.
Cheers
