I'm finally rebuilding the doors on the MK1 (much easier than the Herald!!) but I find that firstly there seems to be a lot of room between the windscreen
pillar and the front of the chrome quarterlight, with the result that the P rubber does not seal, and secondly on winding the windows up, they sit quite
far out from the door seal at the top. No way is this going to be watertight. If I move the slotted bolts to their fullest travel the quarterlight is not
paralell to the A post and the glass comes out of both channels on winding up; on winding down it always comes right out of the rear channel but slots back
in again on windup. I can elongate the slots ok for forward movement, but how do I make the windows follow the contour of the body on windup and sit more
tightly to the top, particularly the B post top corner? Has anyone tried shimming the quarterlight legs at the bottom, and is this successful? (Slotted
bolts here are on full extension already....)

By 'slotted bolts', do you mean slots in the quarterlight frame?
It sounds to me that you need to adjust the way the door hangs in the door frame more than the quarter light. The hinges are adjustable - the bolts go
into captive nuts ina plate inside the A post, so the hinges can be moved in two dimensions, vertial and horizontal. The lock mechanism is fixed in a
similar way, so that can be adjusted too, allowing you to fix the 'in-out' position of the door when closed.

I had a simmilar problem the glass did not seal very well and after a rather vigerous day at prescot hill climb the window would not wind up and came
out of the runner in a simmilar manner to yours.
Removing the trim board gave access to the bottom of the glass runner at the rear. This is bolted into the door on a metal bracket, by swaping a couple
of washers around and some firm but carefull pulling of the quaterlight (with the glass wound down) I achieved a much better fit. The window seals
propperly and operates quite smoothly.

I messed about with removing, adding washers where appropriate to get the quarter light to 'lean' more inwards. I also fitted new door frame seals.
Upshot is that I now have a GT6 that is noisy rather than very noisy!
