Any of you guys out there got any idea what is involved in fitting.
I have chance of a good one removed from MGBGT (scraped due to tin worm), but not got a clue whats involved.
Looked around internet to no avail.
Really always fancied one but not sure if I am brave enough.
Do any companys exist that will just fit one ?
Alun Williams.

The most important thing is getting the hole the right size. If your sunroof has a one piece frame you can measure the size of the hole to cut. If the
frame is in bits it's best to measure the hole in the car it came from, and get an idea of how far back from the windscreen it goes.
If your car has a headlining at the moment drill a small hole in the roof where each corner will be, pierce the head lining and cut it in an X shape.
Remove sound insulation. padding etc in the way. Then drill a 10mm hole in each corner and half way along the back and the front. You need these to get
the nibbler in and out. I use a Turner nibbler from Machine Mart, it costs about £30 and fits in a drill.
Cut the hole, fold up the head lining and glue it to the outside of the roof, fit the frame, then the sunroof.
I've done 2 and it's not difficult it's just daunting to drill the first couple of holes in the roof.
There is a firm in the Worcester/Cheltenham area that will fit it called Sunroof Conversions. I might have the number somewhere if you want it.

Alun,
Ensure that the sunroof is the right profile, the GT6 roof is not as flat as a BGT's. I understand that the only other car that can use the
same roof as a GT6 is a Beetle.
RS Coachbuilts in Brixton are a supplier and installer of Webasto sunroofs- reckon on £1000.

Thanks for that Tim, gone off idea anyway.
Not brave enough to start cutting holes.

As I understand it fitting a genuine Webasto roof is a specialised job, not that I've any personal experience with them. You would be better off
finding a Britax Weathershield sunroof, thish is more DIY friendly,
Cheers,
Bill.

Fair point from Bill, one of mine is actually Britax (from an MG, and with a one piece frame) and the other is Weathershield (from a GT6, with
separate bits making up the sides). The one you're looking at might be one of these, as people say Webasto to mean all fabric sunroofs, a bit like
people say Hoover, or Minilite.
So it would make sense to check what make the one you are looking at really is.

Hi Alun,
I'm sure there was an article in Practical Classics a while back about fitting a sunroof... Can't remember which issue but I can have a look after the
weekend if you like, unless someone else on the boards has it handy? It didn't look too difficult as long as you're methodical and careful!
Cheers,

They say the Master Cutter who cleaved the Cullinan Diamond had nerves of steel and he still fainted with relief when he found that he had hit the
right stroke and split the diamond cleanly instead of shattering it... I don't know about you but looking at a pristine GT6 roof with a pair of tin
snips in hand fills me with the same dread....!! It's one job I'd prefer to blame on someone else...

hi Alun,
I had a sunroof fitted into my mk1 last summer by that chap at sunroof conversions.!
He is in Redditch, 0152760401
I think you need to use a frame meant for a gt6,i seem to remember the chap saying that the mg one is the same width, but a bit longer(but im not 100%
sure),anyway I went up to the spitfire graveyard and took one out of a scrap mk3(it is a weathershield ), then took it to this chap who then
reconditioned it and cut the hole and fitted it in.!
It was a very neat job,he even had a roll of headlining to match aswell.
I have done a lot of mods/improvements to my mk1,but this was by far the best, it has transformed the inside to a place that you actually WANT to be on
warm day!
All in the cost was around 450 pounds.
Any more Q's let me know
cheers
Roy
