Hi all,
under TT3618 there is a conversion offered from Moss to convert the Roto axle to the Spitfire-style rear shocks. Who has expierience regarding the
benefits? What is the advantage of such a conversion?

The main benefit is the re-location of the mounting point from the inner wheel arch to the chassis (the kit provides bolt on extensions to enable the
dampers to clear the Rotoflex coupling).
The trouble with the standard mounting to the arch is that the body flexes and in time the mounting point being multiple skinned, will rot and in
extreme cases the damper can pull the mounting away from the body.
In theory mounting the suspension directly to the chassis will also give better location and control of movement. To be honest on a road car I don't
think you'd notice. I changed the mounts on my road going GT6 to address the issue of corrosion to the original mounts. It would also enable you to
remove the original mounts from the inner arch enabling different wider wheel/tyre combinations to be fitted without fouling.

Thanks for the info,
is it advisable to weld the bracket onto the chassis instead of fixing it with the screws?

Hi,
I also fitted the conversion to get around a corrosion problem.
Don't think it's necessary to weld the barckets on to the chassis as they are mounted very securely, sandwiched between the body and chassis by
the rear body mounting bolts in a vertical and with a horizontal bolt through the chassis where Spitfire shocks would have been mounted.
FYI, here is a picture of them installed on the nearside of my car.

To all GT6 fanatics.
Just finished replacing the old shock absorbers on my GT6. I've replaced them with new SPAX and the conversion brackets supplied by the club. They
look great, but do require some cutting away of the inner wheel arches to get the brackets to fit properley, otherwise the body tub will not sit
right on the chassis. Iwill get round to posting some pics of the work done.
Next project is a full sports exhaust system!
In the future I would like to fit SU carbs. If anyone out there has done this the please send my an idiots guide to doing it.
Also, MX5 seats are they really a direct replacement for the originals?
Long live the GT6!
Mark.

Just to the right hand side are the archives. Look under "Seats" and you will find two sites that give instructions on fitting MX5 seats. The
seat rail centres are the same distance apart but the seat lugs are offset and need to be hacked about. Other than that an excellent addition
to the GT6.

Or if you realy want to go extreme, get a couple of leather MR2 seats, a very good hacksaw and a welder. Note tendancy to fall asleep as
sooooo comfy.
