Can anyone suggest the appropriate settings for my Spax shockers to achieve good handling characteristics.
I run a GT6 MkIII with rotoflex suspension and (at present) standard wheels and tyres. I already adjusted the rear shocks' screw setting by 1 full turn,
which has helped. Rather than doing it all by trial and error I'd appreciate anyone elses' experience.
Thanks

I would suggest this is trial and error only, the handling characteristics will vary depending on wear of bushes, spring, set up at the front end and,
of course, the way you like to drive!

The guys in America who Autocross their GTs have the rear setup full soft and the front about half way hard, if you see what I mean?! The setup very
much depends on your driving style and the cars usage, ie country roads or motorways... If you are finding the car still isn't responding the way you'd
like after fiddling with the shocks, rebush it all round with poly bushes. After that try some 600lb front springs (but don't lower the front) and if
all else fails, run a Herald estate rear spring. You might like to go for wider wheels? Triumph raced on 175s. Don't go bigger than 185s if you want
performance over looks. Stay with a 13" rim, cos any bigger and it buggers your suspension geometry!
Anything else?

Have to agree with the bulk of that! GT6s do not require much more than a std heavy duty shock due to the light rear end weight, too stiff damping
on the rear can cause a situation where the rear end can not correct attitude quickly enough say from fast right to fast left making things very
hairy indeed. Having said that it is unlikley this will happen on the road. On track that is a different matter.

Simple get rid of the Spax shockers and buy some Konis from Canley Classics or Jigsaw, for the road keep on soft settings.

Tim
I need to replace my shock soon - isn't a pair of Konis set on soft more or less like a standard pair?

I believe that Koni shockers are better made and are gas filled, therefore not likely to overheat after heavy use. Speak to Dave
Pearson at Canley Classics.
