Hi,
I've just bought a GT6 MK111. I'm not only completely new to classics but also mechanics, so any suggestions (in as simple language as possible

) gratefully received.
Firstly, my brakes occasionally stick. It's usually when coming to a rest after town driving, but has been noticed once or twice after 50mph on dual
carriageway. They can usually be unstuck by briefly pumping the brake pedal. How can I find out which wheels are sticking (for some reason it feels like
the front ones)? Is this a common problem, hopefully with a simple explanation and fix (I'm an eternal optimist!)?
Secondly, there is a knocking noise coming from the rear. The frequency of the knocks is proportional to the speed of the car. I checked the obvious -
stuff stuck in the wheels etc. Any idea what could be causing this?
Also, I know this isn't the forum to ask in, but while I'm here, the paint job was terrible - where there are angles in the body work, the paint hasn't
stuck so is bubbling up and cracking. Anyone know of a decent paintsprayer? London based perferably.
Thanks!
Dave

I'd jack the car up at each corner in turn and assess which wheels are binding. It is probable that you have sticking front callipers, but if you're a
novice, I'd leave repairs to someone who knows their way round car brakes. The knocking noise could be either a wheel bearing or a driveshaft UJ (more
likely) but you don't say if this is a rotoflex equipped car or not. Sorry to sound technical but you could start with a Haynes manual for an idea of
the workings of the rear suspension/driveshaft area. None of the faults you have described seem terminal and are well within the scope of the novice
home mechanic with help and a good manual! Paintwork, try looking in the Traders/Suppliers section of the website, they tend to be better for our cars
rather than the average coachworks that you'll find in the yellow pages (and cheaper!).

Dave,
for a quick check, if brakes are binding, next time you stop find out which of your front wheels gives off more heat,
cheers Calvin.
PS, mark talks sense, get someone who is in the know to check your brakes.

if your gt6 is a late model mkIII chances are it has a servo, this could be the root of your problem if you think it is the front brakes that are
sticking as the servo from what i remember only boosts the front circuit.as for the knocking at the rear i agree it sounds like a uj as it normally
is,does the noise get louder when going round a corner ie,more on a left hander than right hander or vice versa as it will help to diagnose which side
it is that is worn.does the noise increase on the overrun when the uj would not be under engine load?another method of diagnoses is to disengage the
clutch at speed,if the knocking increases i would say its certain to be a uj..
