ok, put the 6cyl back in for now and have been using car while the weathers' good.
Only thing is, once the front brakes (new slotted discs and new pads) have got warmed up the squeal like buggery.
Light braking is quiet
mid braking is very nosy
heavy braking is quiet too.
anyone any ideas? (change the pads for green stuff?)
Cheers

You did install the anti-squal shims, right?
The green stuff pads don't come with them - so either use your old ones or buy a pack of pins and shims...

A small amount of copper ease wiped sparingly on the rear of the pads will stop the noise if you have no anti squeal shims. Ensure it does not migrate
elsewhere though.

But then again, if you're going to take the pads out, you may as well install the shims... they're cheap...
No worries about copper etc migrating on to the pads or discs...

I've always used shims and copper slip, does this sound like 'belt and braces' to you?
Also, after my front wheels started 'squeaking' at low speeds I checked the brakes out and the PO has used neither. The squeak stops when I
apply the brakes so it's all a bit backwards, but do you think this is the cause?

Nigel,
It seems to be something PO's do... leaving off the shims.
Mine started squealing at odd times before I put on the shims... at first it only squealed when the brakes got hot - then after that it
would squeal every now and then - even though the brakes werent on. Odd... but the shims cured it.
I shall have to get myself some of that copper stuff...
