Restoring a 1973 Mk 3 non roto, body off and chassis part way through build up after galvanising and painting etc.
Plan is to stroke engine to 2.5 litres fit fast road cam and 175 Strombergs.
To cope with the extra oomph the plan was also to upgrade brakes, so i purchased from Moss their brake upgrade kit (four pot alloy Wilwood calipers, vented
discs and billet alloy adaptor plate) after assurances that it would fit under standard 13" steel wheels. Problem is that they don't, i could allways back
them but am looking at other options and so am looking for any advise on the following:-
1 A conversation a couple of years ago with the then technical secretary, brought the advice that fitting 14" wheels was a worthwhile upgrade (why? i
didn't think to ask at the time), but i have also heard elsewhere that this upsets the suspension geometry, any thoughts?
The hope is that 14" wheels if a worthwhile upgrade may clear the calipers
I know the club sells 14x6 alloy wheels has any body any experiance of fitting them and tyre combinations so they do not foul standard wheel arches,
are 14x5.5 available if so.
Has any one any experiance of fitting minilites new two piece version of their wheel to a GT6 or spitfire etc.
If the 14" option seems to be the route to go has any one in the south west London/surrey area got one that they would be willing to let me try over the
moss set up.
2. If i end up backing the Moss kit does any one have any experiance of fitting any other brake upgrade kit under standard 13" wheels.
Thanks
Shaun.

Shaun, not sure if this will help you any as I am still running stock calipers with vented discs but...there's plenty of room behind mine.
I am running MG Montego wheels (the wire effect ones) these are 6x15".
I had to lop off part of the inner wings (not a lot) and put 195x50's on them. (they just clear the bulkhead and roll bar) Rear end is fine but a 6mm
spacer on each wouldn't come a miss as rather close to the bump stop.
Also to do it I had to put TR7 studs on as the nuts are big buggers.
I can send you pics if you want to see the look of it (not to everyones taste I'll bet). Oh and I have a 1" bigger gap on the front wheel arches as I
had to raise the bonnet to fit in the V8.
Cheers

I do'nt understand what you mean Morris Garages Montego 15in wheels not to everyones taste.
I think they look totally horny, that,s why I own 19 of the sexy little beauties. They look so delightfull dressed in black shiney rubber.
OKAY,OKAY !!
They are very, very cheap and currently available ( funny that's how I like women too ).They dramaticaly improve turn in, iron out the built in
understeer, and allow the fitment of 11 1/2 vented discs.
Sounds okay to me.

A mixture of road and track legal & 3 cars. These wheels are currently available but very soon they will be hard to find. So buy now
thats my motto.
Yes, I do have an adiction, which started in 1991 - its called GT6's.
