Rear suspension / differential alignment

I have a Mkiii that has been converted to swing spring (how odd a description when the connected leaf is pinned to the diferential centre and does not move!)... However.. My diiff oozed oil out of every seal and particularly the left hand half shaft side which on closer inspection was coming out of the casing (the internal clip had gone awol).
On dissmantling the driveshafts that are connected to the hubs, the driveshaft seemed to move away from the flange readily wherease the driveshaft on the otherside was pressed hard against the other halfshaft flange.
Is this the reason why the halfshaft on the lefthandside was 'pulled out'?

The transverse spring is new and so are the bushes.
Does anyone have any experience in this area.

I am currently reassembling with a reconditioned diff and would like to cure the problem as it is likely to happen again.

many thanks

Steve Harvey
