I think i know the answer to this but i would rather check than break something.
Im trying to remove the gear shift knob (overdrive) and have removed the top cap and separated the switch from the top cap. I can see what i believe is a
slotted circular retainer which i assume is holding the knob onto the threaded shaft of the main gear stick. I have tried a few gentle taps with narrow
blunt screwdriver but it doesnÂ’t want to budge so thought i had better check that my assumptions are correct before doing any damage?
Its nothing silly like and opposite thread is it, am i just not tapping hard enough or am i completely off the mark and theres something else holding the
knob on?

Look below the black part of the knob, and there's a silver collar with flats on. Use a spanner to screw this slightly
down the stick and then the slotted nut inside will be loose enough to undo.
