Make sure it's very clean. Personally I would

The J type is a better unit
but the D type is perfectly adequate for a road car, a little less robust (not much) a little more electrickery around it (not
much) and a little weaker (not much). If you want to refettle your D type yourself then you're on your own, better to just exchange
it for a recon one and pay the money - that would be your simplest solution.
