Hey there folks...
Tried to fit new shiny spinoff convertor at the weekend. All seemed to be great, changed the oil, and thought job well done...
Started her up and decided to dump half of the fresh oil through the bolt head that holds the filter onto the engine. Gah! Tightened it up but no effect,
to point of completley squishing the copper washer it almost stoped but still dripped. so old filter back on... YUCK!
Any one else had this problem or could possible offer suggestions? Including a new copper washer im guessing!
Want it on before the weekend, for the Bromley Pageant.

If that is one of those with 'Mocal' cast into the converter, then the problem is that you have one of those 10% of Triumph engine blocks that has a
slightly different depth where it fits, hard to explain, but simple to remedy.
You need to remove it and send it back to the manufactuers (Think Automotive) in Isleworth, Middlesex, who are aware of the problem and will be happy
to remachine the casting for you so that it doesn't leak any more.
Obviously as the problem only seems to affect about 10% of Triumph 6 cylinder engines, they cannot put the problem right until they are made aware of
it.
I cannot recall the exact amount of machining involved but it is very slight, something like 5/32nds of an inch or 3/32nds ???
They didn't charge me when they did mine, and I had two done, one with oil cooler take off and thermostat and one without.
I think they have recently stopped making these!

Leon,
The face of the oil filter fitting on the block is flat, so I presume that you refer to the depth of the groove for the sealing ring.
3-5/32nds sounds awfully like the thickness of the rubber ring that goes in there.
Is possible that you, and others had two rings one on top of the other???

I seem to remember when I bought mine that it came with two alternative thickness O rings for the centre bolt???

Good guess John, but no banana!
I only had one ring, and this is a fairly well known problem, at least I thought it was!

No, no, Leon, Vinny is the Ace with the megaYellow Banananananana car!
It was a long shot, and I remember the two thicknesses of O-ring to seal the space between the central and outer spaces behind the filter
(one inwards, one outwards - can't remember which). The kit even cam with a tiny peice of silly putty that you did a trial fitting with, to
determine which thickness to use.
Problem is - the corresponding part of the adaptor barely fits! It is made so that the O-ring sits, not on the flat of the block face, but
right on its edge. See below.
