Simple Engine Mount Question

Hi,
I am new to GT6s.
I have just bought a Mk1, and need to change the engine mounts.
there was two differant spacers fitted to the old mount, how many were ment to be there.
From the rubber engine mount to the chassis turret, there is a solid, two holed spacer, of about 8mm.
Between the engine mount bracket and the rubber engine mount, there was two packing plates, like used on the lower front wishbone to chassis packing plate.
Are they both ment to be there.

Normally only the lower wishbone type are used. these being fitted between the turret and the rubber mounting. Up to four can be used. The main purpose seems to be to give clearance between the sump and the steering rack. But be aware the more you fit the shims the greater chance the engine will come in contact with the bonnet. This means if the engine is raised then the bonnet may also have to be raised, using the adjustments provided, see the handbook.

In your case if you choose to remove the spacer blocks and fit more shims to the same height then hopefully all should be ok. That is providing no contact between the engine and the bonnet is already taking place at present.

  sorry but that does not make sence!!!!!
  If I fit the shimes between the turet and engine mount, all it will do is move the engine mount forward.
  to raise the engine, they need to go between the engine mount and the engine mount bracket.
  As I said, I have both.
  A 8mm thick type that moves the rubber engine mount forward, and the lower wish bone type that raise the engine.
  Was the two normaly fitted at factory, or is my engine 8mm to far forward, and some one has stuck this 8mm packing plate there to compromise???

    The picture shows how it's mounted on my car. I also have a 8mm piece, which cannot be seen in the picture as it is at the back side of the turret, maybe for purpose of added strength? I don't know of any other shims.
    
    Must say that I got this car in a half restored state, not sure if everything is as it should be.
    
    And I have the impression that I'll have problems with the engine fouling the bonnet (the bonnet is not mounted yet), so I definitely don't think the engine should sit more to the front, at least not on my car.

      them hand brack brackets cleaned up a real treat in my blast cabinet, many thanks.
      
      the 8mm spacer you say you have, is it inbetween the lower enging mount holes TO turret.
      
      I have looked in my Triumph service book, but cant see it.
      it is listed in Rimmer bros, no 145199 changed to 145199U. but No pics of were it goes.
      really need some one with a parts catolage and exploded diagram.
      
      Buy the way Johan, are you going to stonleige in feb?

        No, it's: engine mount -- turret -- spacer That's why you can't see the spacer in the picture.
        
        However, this means the spacer doesn't act as a spacer. That's why I supposed that it could be there for added strength? But as said: it could as well be that the previous owner mounted it incorrectly.
        
        I don't have my parts list or manuals at hand...

        Sorry my fault, I understand now the direction you are coming from now. If they are additional spacers then they are some times fitted when a J type overdrive conversion is carried out as this type of overdrive is longer than the original D type.

        A following thought - If the spacers were fitted for a J type conversion then the engine mounts would be fitted on to the rad side of the turrets.

        That makes more sence now, as it does have overdrive.
        so just to conferm, I use the 8mm spacer, (which is really just the threded block, as used to thred the lower turret bolts to chassis, threded blocks, but with the threds drilled out)
        and i use the (again) lower turret, but this time spacers, under the engine mount brackets, so they are sitting on top of the engine rubber mount???
