Ultraburn - is it just 'snake oil' ??

Hi all, been a member of TSSC for a couple of months and finally managed to acquire a GT6 at last
So, the first of [no doubt] many questions:

The car has an 'Ultraburn' unit fitted in the fuel line, and I quote: "The electromagnetic effect of the ferrite core alters the ionic charge of the hydrocarbon and oxygen molecules enhancing the banding...."

plus more of the same.

To me this sounds like just so much BS. So does anyone know any real info about this? Searching the web revealed some ASA adjudications against Datom Products for adverts with no data to back up claims for the product.

The gist if you don't know is that it allows the engine to run on unleaded and saves the world at the same time.

It was fitted by a Triumph specialist for the previous, previous owner...

  ive certainly heard of them,
  they have also been called: fuel saver, power plus, ect ect.
  why did the companys name change so many times?
  why is the product not fitted to alot more cars?
  why is it not mentioned by the likes of top gear?
  
  well as you say,
  with every name change came law suits for false unsubstantiated claims,
  the people worst hit by this brilliant piece of miss marketing was the independant garages, the rrp tag was &163;75 + per unit the garage bought them for around &163;50+ but had to order them in quantitys of 25 in a box for each size, as you can work out this is a big outlay for a small garage and within a month or so the company would vanish and change name, so if i were you i would remove it from your car and keep it safe, and when you actually get to meet one of these people who sold/designed ect these products shove the bl**dy thing up their *rse
  and remember the poor independant garages (they are not all that bad really) as you do it!

      Now now James, don't have a go at Nig for using a pic of a sheep. Wonder why that would have an effect...ah mintylamb..........
