This morning I decided to check and adjust my valve clearances. I removed the rocker box cover and then following the correct order I began checking and
resetting to exactly 0.10in. All went well until I got to valve 11 which seemed to me to look drier than all the rest which had a nice covering of oil.
Even after I had set valve 11 to exactly 10 thou it still seemed to me to be very much looser and rattly than any of the others. It still opens and closes
the same as its 'partner' (Valve 8). All I could think of was that the oil supply to number 11 was so much worse than the rest that there has been more
wear on the rocker arm and that when the feeler gap is exactly 10 thou the 'actual' gap due to wear may be much more than 10 thou. Does this sound
correct?
Any advice would be appreciated.
The car is a Mark 3 GT6 with a 2500cc engine with high lift cam.
Thanks
Mike

Sorry, in my message I typed '0.10' when of course I meant '0.010'

For the mal-adjustment it could be that the rocker is worn where it meets the top of the valve. Lets say the tip of the rocker is worn 5 thou,
straddling the feeler gauge across the worn bit will give you a gap of 15 thou! If one valve is dry you could have a badly worn guide, that would
account for it's looseness. Have a compression check, that might show it up?
Needless to say that all oilways should be clear.
Good luck

Thanks Don. Interestingly a guy here at work owns a 'Clikadjust' which he is going to lend me and that will enable me to set up the gap at
exactly 10 thou but taking into account any 'concave' wear on the rocker arm face.
How does the oil feed to the rocker shaft and arms work? Does oil get pumped along the whole shaft and from there through holes to each rocker
arm?
Thanks for any info
Mike
