Speedo issues of mine and yours
speedo cables for triumphs come with two different sizes of square drive I discover
on my car, the angle speedo drive at the gearbox needs a small square drive cross-section cable, the gt6 speedo head needs a larger one
the speedo cable I have is of the small size at both ends, fits the angle drive well (after making sure the gearbox drive shaft was also of the
small square section), my speedo drive failure was of the cable in the speedo head.
aftre much faffing about, the eventual solution was to clean the last half inch of the cable, tin with soft solder and plumbers flux. then wind
one whisker of copper wire around the cable and solder it all together then file it back to a square section to fit the speedo head.
Tom, thank you very much for looking at your speedo, I am pleased to say it wasn't aftre all the speedo itself that failed, and for anyone else
messing with speedo cables, drives or heads, make sure you get the square sections the right size, the big one won't fit into the small holes
and the small cable won't drive the big holes... learn what you can from my findings
only took me three weekends of messing about to work it out!
