Dolomite Speaker Locations and Sizes

I think there might be some holes behind the rear parcel shelf already, have a look from underneath.
It is just about possible to get some speakers into the front doors, without cutting out metal, take the panel off for a look. They might end up alongside the seat though.
You could get some pod speakers (is there such a thing still?? Or am I stuck in the 80's???) and stick them on the parcelshelves. That is what I sorted out for my brother when he had a Dolly (and a shite stereo) many years ago.

Ther are speaker holes in the back shelf, however they are intersected by the boot-hinge mechanism. I always assumed that the holes were a throwback to the short-tail models which these bodyshells were based on. It was a long time ago, but I'm fairly sure we managed to used some other apertures in the steelwork to mount speakers, albeit smaller ones than we had hoped.

In all 1500's Toledo's and Dolomites the standard radio was a Smiths Radiomobile MW/LW set. So no stereo, just one speaker at the front and one at the
rear.
The original set-up was - On the 1850 the front speaker is mounted under the small grill in the center top of the dash. The rear speaker was mounted on the offside (drivers side) of the panel which holds the rear parcel shelf. You fit the speaker to the metal panel under the parcel shelve, than have to cut out a hole in the parcel shelve and fit a grill.
These days most people fit the front speakers into the front doors.
The rear speaker there is a mounting, as above, on the offside under the parcel shelf. On the nearside there is a mounting hole for a speaker but the boot hinge assembly cuts across this and prevents its use.

Hi,
I had the same thoughts when I got my Dolomite, but decided to just carry on as normal. After taking off a door panel, I decided not to put any in the doors, because they weren't guarenteed watertight on my model. You may have found different. I mounted 2 6x9 speakers on the rear parcel shelf, not in the holes that are already there, but further inwards, using an angle grinder and a file to cut out the right shape and size, and the screwing them in. The front speakers I mounted onto cut-offs of skirting board, stained the same colour as the wooden dash, and then stuck them in to the outside sections of the front parcel shelves, on driver's side and passenger side. (see attached photo). These are 6 inch round speakers. This I have found to be ample sound quality for what I listen to. I am debating putting an 800W subwoofer in the boot, but that depends on the quality of the frame around it.
