TR7 Engine in a Dolomite 1850

Posted By : Chris Dickinson, 18-Jul-2007, 07:11pm

Hello All

While on holiday last week the engine for my Dolomite 1850 has suffered some terminal damage, and now needs to be replaced. My 4-speed gearbox has lost the use of sychromesh on 2nd, so it makes sence to replace that at the same time. One of the options Im considering is fitting a TR7 engine and an overdrive gearbox to my 1850.

Although I would love to have a 5-speed box in my 1850, I'm minded to fit an 1850 overdrive unit as I understand fitting a TR7 gearbox to an 1850 requires modifications to the gearbox tunnel, rear subframe, gearbox mountings and a custom propshaft.

Can someone please list the modifications that would be required to fit a TR7 engine in an 1850? I would be passing this information on to my garage for them to quote for the work so I want to make sure I have got it right.

So far all I can come up with is:
- Modified engine backplate
- Modified sump
-Modified heater hoses and pipes

Anything else required?

Thanks

Chris

PS Why does the TSSC site say that the TR7 has 92 BHP compared to the Dolomite 1850 at 95 BHP. Surely this cannot be right.
