Is there anyone who has experience of using a 1500HL as a daily runner? I just wondered what sort of fuel consumption you got.
My Dolly mainly gets used for the work run into and out of the city centre, it's about 3 miles each way. Even on weekends it tends to be mainly short
trips.
The engine is a nicely-run-in rebuild. The carbs are properly adjusted, balanced, correct mixture etc. The tappets are fine, the timing correct and I
change the points and condenser every six months and the plugs every year.
My fuel consumption is generally in the range 22-24 mpg, although it's been lower than that in winter. Is this about all I can expect for the sort of
mileage I do in the car?
Cheers,
Quentin

It's hardly fair judging fuel consumption on 3 mile trips. You need to remember you are driving a car fitted with a twin carb " sports car engine " and
the useage of the choke.
If you feel the need to economise try the fitment of a single carb. Though " performance " will suffer.

If that's all I can expect out of it given the sort of mileage I do then fair enough.
I just wondered whether the 19 mpg I get out of it in winter sometimes and the 22ish in summer might be a little low, given the quoted fuel
consumption of 30 mpg (which I realise will be for long runs or possibly "combined" cycle or whatever it's called).
Oh well, I'll just have to face the fact that I'm never going to be rich!

Perhaps you could consider the following options to ensure better mpg:
1.Get a job further from home
2.Move house further from job (could be tricky - i've heard they're very heavy)
3.If option 2 proves too awkward consider moving to a different house that is further from your job rather than moving the original house
4.Leave for work early, and forget lots of things, allowing you to drive in and out of work several times.
5. Adjust your work hours to suit to coincide with the 'School Run', wait at an appropriate point for a Road Blocker / Land Bruiser / Big ugly
black thing to come past lasso onto the bumper and get towed. This is particularly useful if you're a teacher, as you could well get towed to
the appropriate school.
This option also has the added bonus of the fact that you'd never get caught out ... The people who drive those cars rarely check their mirrors
anyway.
