I have been a member of the TSSC off and on since 1983, when I first join we did just specialist in cars based on the chasis, plus Bond's and
Ampicars, in the 90's membership was quoted as being 10,000. If the Club had not openned to other cars - TR's, Aclaims, etc, where would be
now. As each year progresses more cars leave the road - people taking two to build one, accidents, MOT failures, parts and membership reduces -
we get older, the car do.
The club must expand to survive or else we as a club will disappear - then try finding a part if you still have car.
Look at the MG club open to all MG's (God never thought I would be saying this) has done the same.
We can stray the same and disappear or expand and survive.
So what that the Aclaim is mainly Japanese at least it was sold as aTriumph (The last). Was it built in the UK under the Triumph badge? GT6,
Spitfire was under under the BL badge - as these not Triumphs.
At least our cars are not being built in China.
Mini's built by BMW, MG. owned by the Chinese - what next, a re badged Rover. (OK I know the Triumph name is still own by BMW. - but at least
they havn't started building tem too.)

Thankfully not.
BMW aren't stupid so they weren't going to sell on a British brand who's pedigree is executive saloon cars and small sports cars... so
that would be the 3/5 series and the Z- series then.

Graham,
I couldn't agree more.
What I find a real shame though is that some members of the club deliberately post provocative messages, such as the one to which you
replied. It is this type of behaviour that chips away at the credibility of a Club, and if allowed to continue unchecked can easilly result
in the death of a Club.
This sort of person is commonly known as a Troll, and their messages are best ignored.
In Internet terminology, the dictionary defines a Troll as someone who intentionally posts derogatory or otherwise inflammatory messages
about sensitive topics in an established online community such as an online discussion forum to bait users into responding.
In this context, the message, to which you responded so eloquently, was posted by a Troll, who has on several occasions stated his hatred
of the Acclaim, both in freshly started threads, and by resurecting ancient threads just to tell everyone that he hates Acclaims.
Do we really care what he thinks of the Acclaim ?
He's already gone on my "ignore posts from" list.

kevin i totally agree with you, there is a fraction that hates tr7's as well, but at the end of the day they are all triumphs, yes that
includes the acclaim.
may all the trolls forever dissapear
hugh

Well said Kevin & Hugh
Nothing is more tedious and likely to prevent further progression of the club than what seems to be one man's fast becoming boring
jibe at what is still a Triumph.
We are all different and it is because of this we all have differing tastes which makes both life and people interesting.
So please let us enjoy our Triumphs regardless of model, chassis, colour etc..
Kind regards
Neil.

It's also human nature - a not very nice aspect of human nature, but still.
We (used to?) tell jokes about Irishmen. The Swedes tell the same jokes about Finns, the Greeks about Turks (and vice versa)
and the Aussies about Poms.
Everyone likes to have some group in the community to look down on and despise.
In this one, it's Acclaims, in the TR world it's 'small chassis' Triumphs (very Freudian!).
Best ignored, along with trolls as well.
People do it as a wind up.
A blank response is much better than disapproval or approval, as either of those rewards them.

Do not belittle the Acclaim! If there was one car that influenced BL it was this one. Ok it's a Honda (Concerto?) but it
was the first reliable British car and led directly to the Rover badged follow on's. It also saved a heck of a lot of jobs.
If BL had stayed with Honda who knows where it would be today. I still say BMW only wanted BL for the Mini name because
they stated publically that BMW would never make a front wheel drive car! How's that for an own goal.

a club for all ??? maybe
A blank response is much better than disapproval or approval, possibly with the lack of staff at hq at the moment the
normal answer to a question from any member . Good luck with the recruitment drive
simple questions like 'when's the new server being rolled out ' could be answered by saying hopefully b 4 the end of the
year rather than having a scrap with other members on this forum.
should members that are interested in the club enough to a: sign up to the website. B: turn up at local area meetings C:
support the club. be recognised as loyal members versus those that A: cant be bothered / not interested .B: just join for
cheap insurance
be given additional discount/services
as a national club thats recognised over the water we have a poor turn out of members, i think we have over 10000 members
but might only for example have about 3000 registerd on the website and only 2000 turn up at local meeting's
No active members means no new members . so where are you all ? all the area meetings could have at least 50 - 100 people
turn up . think what the pub landlord would do for you
mick
the visitors on line at the moment are you members ? if so can you register on the tssc homepage if not you can join for
additional benefits

Mick - 10,000 members? Where do you get that number from? I can't think there's 10,000 members in the TSSC but I can't
ever find a true, justified number. Other clubs publish their membership number to their members monthly, why don't we?
Not that it's important it just feels daft to not know and even dafter to have to search for it.
There are lots of member who don't use the messagebaord - of the 9 or so members who attended this weeks meeting in my
Area, only 3 regularly post on this board including me.

Acclaims don't need spares support as they break so infrequently, rusty wrecks can be plundered for everything needed!
They do at least rust just like "proper" Triumphs, whatever those are...

Ive only ever seen mint ones, I can only recall seeing one rusty one up to now but the guy that owned it has other Triumphs
which he doesnt look after so they just go to the wall!! I did get offered one a while back, an Uncle of a friend had it
from new on an A reg, 18000 genuine miles & it was outstanding. They thought I may be interested as I liked Triumphs
but I politley refused....was only £150 as well.......was just scared that people might have thought it was a
taxi & tried to jump in it when I stopped at the lights!!!

About 10 years ago, I used to come along to TSSC meetings with my mate who owned a Spitfire. This led me to buy My own
Dolomite and come along in that. (Dolomites could be quite cheap back then..its all I could afford at the time)
I was always made to feel very welcome, but I felt I 'lost out' on the Joy of people having a butchers at the car and
wanting to know the Story of MY car etc etc. Although I now have a Vitesse I think it is great, too that cars like the
Dolly are made to feel welcome.
