Talk about anything regarding the TSSC
Section : Triumphs on Film and Television

Went to my Daughters Pre School Xmas fete today, mainly cos it is sort of expected to support such events not cos I wanted to be there (don't let the Mrs
see this!). They had a pile of videos and DVDs for sale there, straight away I noticed a copy of "soft top hard shoulder" on DVD and got it for 2 quid.
Remember seeing this when it first came out, in fact as AO for Essex at the time we had an area trip to the cinema to watch it. So I'll keep it for a while
and watch it once or twice, if I get bored I can always donate it to our monthly area raffle, 2 quid seems like a bargain, didn't even realise it was
published on DVD!

I remembered the advert for that, is it the one with a Herald on the cover with the bonnet openning hinged near the windscreen? (the wrong way
round?)

AHh yes.... such trivia, just googled for it now to confirm my suspicions... I am sad, I am Vin.
my daughter called me a saddo tonight when I pointed out an anomoly on the 'Euronics' advert on TV for electrical goods. The cartoon 240V plug that
talks to you has the earth pin and the other two pins the wrong way round....
coat.......

If you sit and watch the home page refresh enough time there is a picture of me (and a few others) sitting in 'Crazy Horse' when we borrowed it
for a show at Ally PAlly.
BOy what a heap of poop that car was.
The bonnet didn't open the 'right' way either, due to the accident damage at the front.
If you watch the Newly aquired DVD, you can spot that there are actually 2 cars used. The original was crashed by a stage hand who borrowed it
for the night.
The replacement was a death trap. No it was worse that that!
Cheers

Well the DVD versuion has a really cr@p cover, the Herald is only just visible (as per piccie below), and if I wasn't a saddo Triumph anorak I
probably wouldn't have realised the Triumph significance of the film.
Yep, like Vin, I am an incurable Triumph Saddo, no cure for this I'm afraid and I've been suffering for nearly 1/4 of a century!

That same original film publicity picture, with the wrong bonnet, was front page of the Courier at the time. Can't remember which issue -
Vin?
We are all media queens aren't we? Even if the pic is TOTALLY wrong, we still feature it, if it shows a Triumph!
Ho, hum.

Don't know which courier it was on, maybe it's one of those subliminal things and that's where I saw the wrong bonnet?, but I dont keep old
couriers, unless there's an image of my yellow banana in it, like not featured but if there's a pic of Stafford or something and there's a
little yellow blob in the far distance and I know I parked the car there - then it's in the courier! woo hoo!
Incidentally, in the hall pic of Stafford on this TSSC website for Stafford 2005, there's a picture of a line of red triumphs (with a red
XK or Jensen in the line up?) and in the far far far distance there's a yellow spit, with a 70's spoiler - that'll be my banana then!
(yes V sad.......)
ps, Andy, got my spit in 1983, when did you get yours?

September 1993 Issue 159.
Now who's a saddo?
And that issue had a competition to win said Crazy Horse, RRN 67K, said to be "unroadworthy"!

Following on from Colin's post about borrowing the car (oops, one of the cars) featured in the film, I still have some of the
script which we found in the glovebox!
Borrowing the car was quite easy, all I did was telephone the film director and ask him nicely.
We also got some promotional material from the agents, this is still at Club HQ.
Funny thing was that Shepperton Studios called about a month after we borrowed the car for the Alexandra Palace Classic Car Show
(London) and asked where it was, we had dumped it back at the studio's back lot and they hadn't even noticed. Shortly after they
offered it back to the club for use as a prize, can't remember who won it or what they did with it - any answers?

According to the December 1993 issue no 162, it was won by a James Morrison of St James Wood, London - according to the DVLa
records, the car is not on the road and has not been since 1993!
James Morrison - are you out there?

Vin,
Got my first Triumph a Dolly 1850 in 1982, replaced by a 1500 spitty in 1984 and then my current GT6 MK3 in 1988.....
When I bought the Dolly I was also looking at Ford Escort 1300Es and Ghias, blimey life could have been so different if I'd gone down
this route.......

I've never heard of this film, what's it about and is it worth buying?

It is about a blokes attempt to get home to scotland in his unreliable herald for Xmas (?) or maybe a wedding.
Lightly humourous, but obviously factually flawed.
Pay in the low single figures if possible. Lord of the Rings it ain't!
Cheers

Guy's
i know this is a long after the intial posting but.......... the 13/60 from 'soft top hard shoulder' is still alive...well sort of.
Its owned by a chap in cornwall who won it in the clubs raffle in a round about way, he had it passed onto him after the winner didnt want it
and the runner up didnt want it either. Its a shed..... and in need of.......... I have been promised it WILL be resurrected one day, with a
bonnet than hinges the right way .
